The Black Arts Movement School Modality taps into the deeper knowledge formations and structures that played out within the context of the Black Arts Movement. It places emphasis on the span of ideas that informed the work by giving historical and pedagogical bearing. Founded and conceived by Romi Crawford, BAMSM was a part of Art Design Chicago, an initiative of the Terra Foundation for American Art exploring and elevating Chicago’s rich art and design histories and diverse creative communities through exhibitions, events, and publications.
